How do I register?

Visit the registration page on the conference website. If registration is open, complete the relevant online registration form.

How much does it cost to attend?

Please visit the registration page on the conference website, if registration is open, all fees will be listed here.

Can I pay by invoice?

Yes. Payment by invoice is available on the registration page until six weeks before the conference. Before selecting this option, please check whether your organisation requires a purchase order (PO) number to be included on the invoice. If a PO is required, please have the number ready and upload a copy of the PO with the registration form.

Will I have to pay VAT?

You do not have to pay VAT on your registration fee or university hotel accommodation.

I have been charged twice for my registration, what should I do?

Please email academic.conferences@contacts.bham.ac.uk and include your details and we will endeavour to resolve the issue asap and issue your refund.

Please note that a 3% fee applies to payments made using corporate credit card. A pop-up message will confirm this before payment is completed.

Can I cancel my place?

Generally, conference registrations and social events cancelled before 4 weeks prior to the conference will receive a full refund. However please refer to the conference registration webpage as this may vary. Please contact us regarding a refund on academic.conferences@contacts.bham.ac.uk  

Accommodation at the Vale cancelled 6 weeks out will receive a full refund.

Edgbaston Park Hotel accommodation cancelled 13 weeks out will receive a full refund.

Can I attend the main conference social event?

Yes, providing there is availability at the social event. The social event options are included in the registration process. Any additional costs are added to your registration fee.

How to get to the venue?

Please head to the travel page on the conference website for further information. To encourage sustainable travel, we have partnered with West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway. If applicable to the event, you can request a 20% discount code after registering.

What is the conference programme?

Once available, the programme will be published on the Programme page of the conference website. Please note that it may change in the lead-up to the event.

Will there be a conference app?

Some conferences offer a dedicated app, with details shared closer to the event. If an app is not available for this conference, all relevant information will be provided on the conference website.

How do I submit an abstract or paper?

If the conference includes abstract or paper submission, please visit the Abstract Submission section of the conference website, where you can submit your paper and view the relevant requirements and deadlines.

What is the dress code?

The dress code for the conference is smart casual. Some social events and dinners may require more formal attire; delegates will be notified in advance.

How do I book accommodation?

Please see the Accommodation page on the conference website for recommended options. If university accommodation is available, you will be able to book this when you register.

What steps have you taken to consider sustainability?

We have taken a number of measures to make our conferences more sustainable, including:



  • Encouraging responsible travel and the use of public transport where possible. See rail discounts in place to
  • encourage travel on train.
  • Providing recycling facilities throughout the venue.
  • Offering a Green Conference Menu, carefully managing catering numbers to minimise food waste.
  • Promoting and making use of green spaces.
  • Encouraging delegates to bring reusable water bottles, with refill stations available on site.
  • Offering a paperless programme and digital event materials.
  • Taking additional practical steps to reduce the event's overall environmental impact wherever possible.
